In the middle age the butchers gave always one piece more by an order of 12 -a dozen-. They got in trouble if a customer wasn't satisfied with the weight or size with one of the 12 pieces.
In the year 1587 where so many butchers located in one street, that the city of Hannover has named one street `Knochenhauer`.
